Seven training groups: Ages are determined by swimmer’s age on 1/1/2011. There are two groups at each age level. Purple for more experienced swimmers and Yellow for swimmers needing more development. (There will only be one group for 13 & Older). In March some swimmers will be offered the opportunity to continue on swim with the long course program.
6-8 years old- (September-March)- this group is set up for those swimmers who are recently out of swim lessons and looking for a winter team experience. All swimmers entering this group should be able to swim a minimum of 25 meters backstroke and freestyle without stopping. The emphasis will be on stroke mechanics, learning proper practice etiquette, and building an endurance base over time. It is a perfect transition for the summer swimmer who can handle their team’s current practice.
9-10 years old- (September-March)- this group is for swimmers who are a bit more advanced in stroke technique and endurance. Swimmers entering this group should be proficient in freestyle and backstroke and have basic knowledge of butterfly and breaststroke. The swimmers will develop confidence in the water and in meets. The emphasis will be improving stroke mechanics, building endurance, and learning to read and use a pace clock.
11-12 years old- (September-March)- this group is designed for swimmers that are able to commit to training on a consistent basis. Swimmers in this group should be proficient in all four strokes. This group will emphasize training for middle distance and Individual Medley events while improving stroke mechanics. Swimmers will work to develop race strategy and plans.
13 and Over- (September- March)- The swimmers in this group have demonstrated their commitment to training and aspire to set and reach higher goals in swimming. This group is designed to train the swimmers for several goal meets as well as increasing race specific endurance in mid-distance events. These swimmers will work weekly on stroke and turn mechanics.
Two additional training groups: by coach’s invite. Both groups are designed for swimmers who are focusing on club swimming. The swimmers in this group have demonstrated their commitment to training and aspire to set and reach higher goals in the sport. Both groups will swim September through July.
Junior Group- this is a developmental training group for swimmers aspiring to eventually move to the Senior training group. The junior group is limited to swimmers aged 11 to those entering their sophomore year in high school. The group’s focus is designed to train the swimmers for several goal meets as well as increasing race specific endurance in mid-distance to distance events. Swimmers will be expected to compete in the 500 Free, 200 IM, 400 IM, 200 Back, 200 Fly, and 200 Breast by the end of the season. Practices are based on 100% attendance. These swimmers will work weekly on stroke and turn mechanics.
Senior Group- (September- August) - senior level swimmers have demonstrated their commitment to the sport and rarely miss practices. The focus of this group will be on training for Sectionals and beyond. Training, meets, and practices are designed and planned towards the swimmers goals and their overall development. Training will focus on middle-distance to distance events. Practices are based on 100% attendance. Dry-land and mental training, as well as full body welfare will be part of the routine. Goal setting, meet planning, and race strategy will also be a focus of training. Swimmers must maintain a minimum of 80% attendance.
